Oh, Summer I Miss You Already

I can't believe summer is already gone. It sort of feels like summer was very short this year. The weather is already changing. We've been having strong winds and some light rain over here in Chicago. It has been getting quite chilly. I usually walk to work so I'm not sure what I will do when it gets super cold. And later when it snows! I really need to learn how to drive. How's the weather on your part of world?

I ran across this song the other day while I was searching online for new music to listen to. As soon as I heard this song I I fell in love. Seriously. I kept hitting replay for a while. This song has become an instant favorite for me. Kate Miller-Heidke has a wonderful voice. Kate and Keir (her husband/guitarist/collaborator) make a fabulous duo. Check it out below.

Saturday Snapshot: View

I'm trying to remember when I took this picture. I think I took it about two weeks ago. I was in the back yard hanging out with my brothers Julian and Marcos and I was playing at being a photographer with my phone, hehe. This is the view from our driveway. Nothing spectacular really. But I do love how the shot came out.

Saying Goodbye

This week has been a bit tough for me. This past Tuesday two of my brothers moved to Texas. Saying goodbye to them was rough. It was probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. I mean, I know it’s not forever, but it was hard. There were tons of tears involved, hehe. I’m lucky to have such wonderful brothers and I’m going to miss seeing them everyday quite terribly. I already miss them. Hopefully we’ll be seeing each other in a few months. Aren't they cute? I'm probably being biased. =P

Movies

It's Friday and I will not be working this weekend! I'm pretty excited about that, especially because tomorrow my grandma and aunts are coming over to make some yummy Mexican dishes. Can't wait for that! But it is going to be a little hectic with all the little cousins running around. But that's okay, I love them. Also last weekend my brother, Teto, his girlfriend and myself went to the movies. I had free tickets! My brother was dying to see Rise of the Planet of the Apes. At the first movie theater we visited the show had just sold out. By this time Teto was freaking out. I mean really. He said he just couldn't go another day without seeing the movie (dramatic much, hehe). We ended up driving downtown and arriving just in time for the 9PM show. I was happy that my brother really enjoyed the movie. I thought it was very interesting and the apes were a bit creepy/scary, I just have to admit that. Also I really like James Franco. He is pretty awesome. I'm convinced there will be a second movie.

Omg, I know that y'all are probably tired of me posting pictures of articles/photos from Entertainment Weekly magazine. I cannot say that I am sorry or that I'm gonna stop any time soon. I just cannot help myself, especially when it comes to the Hunger Games movie. This time around the latest edition of EW has rewarded us with photos of Liam and Josh as Gale and Peeta of The Hunger Games. And I am so excited! You know, I don't really have any complains about how they look or if they even resemble what I had pictured in my mind, I just want to see the movie. That's all I want. Have you listened to Christina Perri's 'Jar Of Hearts'? I just recently came across her music video while channel surfing. I immediately stopped what I was doing and devoted my attention to the song and the video. The song is beautiful and so is her voice. I love how dark and haunted the video looks. My favorite part of the video is the ending, when her heart gets returned to its rightful place. If you have not seen it before check it out below. What do you think? I also fell in love with her song 'The Lonely'. The video for this song is pretty cool too.

Mix Swap

I was really excited to sign up to participate in Bianca's Mix Share Swap over at her blog; Goodnight Little Spoon. Let me first admit that I am not as creative as I wished I was but, I was happy with how the handmade mixes turned out. I made the CD covers using scrapbook paper and decorations. I also used cute stickers and lots of tape! I sent the white cover CD to Corina who lives in Argentina and the orangy-brown cover CD to Rebecca who lives in Washington. I also decorated the envelopes in which I sent the CD's but I totally forgot to snap a picture of them. Oh, well. I've already received my first mix from the U.K. and I love it!

I'm so excited to finally be back. These past two weeks have been very busy and a bit crazy to be honest. We've had family from Texas and Ohio staying with us for a big family event. Last Saturday, before work, my brother Julian and I went to Dunkin Donuts to buy some delicious coffee drink (I can't recall the name) and to kill some time before I had to be at work we went to the park that's close to our house. Are you a Tumblr user? I'm not but I recently discovered and have fallen in love with Dear Photograph on Tumblr. You definitely need to check it out. So what is Dear Photograph you ask? It is such a clever and sweet idea. Dear Photograph takes a picture of a photograph from the past in the present. They are bringing the past right into the present. These are some of my favorite images. It feels like if I'm going through other people's memories. I'm thinking I would like to submit my own photo. We'll see.

I desperately wished this book was a series. I would love to know more about the world and the creatures Robin has created. Definitely, the vampires depicted in Sunshine are not at all the vampires I'm used to reading about. They are frightening! Their mere voice is enough to make you want to drop dead.

Just to go to this incredibly cute shop! This double decker bus serves as dress shop called Lodekka and it is located in Portland, Oregon. Lodekka has been open since October of 2010. I think its one of the cutest things I've seen and I would love to see it in person and discover the treasures within.

Half of the time while reading this book I was afraid to take my eyes away from the page, half expecting to find a ghost staring right at me. I need book 2 now! =D

I love music so when I saw that Bianca was hosting a Mix Share Swap over at her blog: Goodnight Little Spoon, I knew I had to enter. So I did! I've been hard at work going through my music and choosing some of my favorite songs. While on my search I rediscovered Bon Iver. Although I've had them on my music list for a long time I think I haven't listened to them in a while. One my favorite songs by them is Blood Bank. I also really, really like their For Emma, Forever Ago album. This album is incredible. I love how their music is kinda soft and quiet. Anyway, check out Blood Bank below and tell me what you think! Review: Tikmia by F.H. Faizal

My thoughts:

Tikmia is the first book in a trilogy by our fellow blogger and author F.H. Faizal. Tikmia is definitely different. And I mean different in a fascinating way. Expect the unexpected definitely applies here. It usually takes me several days to finish a book but I read this one in less than two days. Tikmia kept me on the edge of my seat and I had to literally force myself to stop reading because I had to go to sleep. The plot is jam-packed with action, twists and turns. It repeatedly had me guessing who the bad guy was. Just when I thought I had it all figured out I found myself staring at the page with my mouth hanging open at how wrong I had been.

Tikmia follows Alia, a seventeen year old girl, who is struggling to understand what is going on around her. She has lost her parents and her brother. She doesn’t know who killed them and she doesn’t know why. Alia was left with the huge responsibility of taking care of her little sisters; Joanna and Ella. I loved Alia from the very beginning. She was one of those fierce butt-kicking heroines we all seek to be. Alia never gave up. She saw the best in every situation and she continued head on no matter what. But I have to say that what I really, really admired the most about Alia was how much she loved her little sisters and how determined she was to protect them. To keep them safe. It broke my heart when Alia was forced to choose between Joanna and Ella.

Alia and her little sisters, along with other orphans found themselves living in what we all thought was an island. She’s lived there for the last two years. The island is run by Dr. Christopher Meld. Dr. Meld comes across as a mean and powerful man. Can I just say that at the beginning I disliked Dr. Meld very much? Yes, I did. But I wasn’t the only one. Alia disliked him with a passion. She didn’t know why just that she did, even when her little sister, Joanna, happened to like him very much. What Alia doesn’t know is that they are not the only ones living on the island. Other human like creatures called Tikmin see the island as their home too. I loved the concept of the Tikmin. I could easily picture them in my mind and I would love to learn more about them. Some Tikmin were evil; they were the enemy but there were others who fought right alongside Alia.

All the characters in this story were wonderful. Yes, even the evil ones. Ella was such a sweet little sister and I found myself wishing I had a little sister. Eben was incredibly sweet and protective of Alia and Ella. He is one of the characters I’m most looking forward to learning more about. I’m still very much intrigued by his sister Lana. I wished we knew more about her. I also had this unexpected connection with a couple of Tikmin. I absolutely loved Lester’s character. So please if you read this book, which you most definitely should, be on the lookout for Lester. Lily was fantastic as well.

The ending was incredible! I was completely shocked. It was totally unexpected. I need to know what’s going to happen next and I need to know now! I will be anxiously waiting for the next installment in this trilogy. I would also like to comment that the cover is brilliant. It ties in perfectly with everything in the story. Also, if you have not checked out the book trailer please do. It’s brilliant!

Sidenote: This is my first official review. Ever. It's safe to say that I was a little nervous. Still am. I just want to give a huge thank you to Hafsah, for giving me the opportunity to read her book. Thanks Hafsah! I'm looking forward to reading more of Alia's story. =D

Recently I've discovered some of the most wonderful and beautiful songs through watching Flashpoint. Flashpoint is my current TV show obsession. These past two weeks that I've been at home recovering from my small surgery I've been watching tons of TV. When I say tons I mean TONS. That is so unlike me since I rarely watch TV, except to watch Criminal Minds and movies of course. But thanks to Netflix I've devoured the first 3 seasons of Flashpoint. Anyway, this show features some of the best music I've heard. Today I would like to feature one of my favorite songs from the show. The song is titled Make It Home Tonight by Jenn Grant from her 2007 debut album: Orchestra For The Moon (such an awesome title!). Jenn is a songwriter and painter from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. She has such a lovely song. I'm looking forward to listening more of her music!

Someone Like You by Sarah Dessen

I keep saying that Sarah Dessen is brilliant because she really is. Someone Like You was not my favorite read but it was quite lovely. My favorite aspect of the novel was Halley's and Scarlett's friendship. They were so loyal and caring and protecting of each other. There are still two more books by Sarah that I have not read: Along for the Ride and What Happened to Goodbye. I can't wait to pick them up!

I've been on recovery this past week. I had a little surgery last Friday. It all happened so fast. I learned I had stones in my gallbladder and next thing you know I was meeting the surgeon and had the appointment for my surgery at the end of the week. Crazy. But I'm glad its over. I feel so much better now that I'm not in pain and that I'm finally starting to feel like myself again.

So I put my book down and put this song on repeat for a few times. This song sounds so sad and delicate and I think Paul has the most perfect voice for it. I seriously cannot believe April is over already. Where has the time gone? This month I only read 8 books. It seems like I'm reading less and less. Goodreads says: “At your current pace, you're 12 books (8%) behind.” Gahhhhhhh! It's all good though. Here is a list of the books I read. This book was definitely different. Not quite what I expected. The vampires within these four stories were gritty, evil and driven by bloodlust. Not the vampires I'm used to hehe. My favorite story was the 4th one, Midnight Predator.

I listen to this song almost everyday at work. I didn’t know the name of the song or who sang it, I just knew I really enjoyed listening to it. It kind of always made my day. Whenever it came on it completely cheered me up and I just started singing along. On Tuesday while I was cleaning my room I was listening to my Zune. Lo and behold the song suddenly starts playing! Turns out I already had it in my collection. The name of the song is Two Is Better Than One by Boys Like Girls. They sing this song with Taylor Swift which is a plus (I'm a fan!). Yesterday I didn't have the chance to post the Thought of the Day. I had promised my brother that I would be helping him with his homework after work. It took us quite a few hours to finish. I have to admit that what first drew my attention to this song was the video. It's just so excellent. I absolutely love the use of the polaroids in the video. Such a fantastic idea. I have been replaying the video quite. And the song is really beautiful. The song is called Departure and it is sung by Mt. Desolation, a new alt-country side project of Tim Rice-Oxley and Jesse Quinn (who by the way also play in the band Keane). Other members of the band include Noah & The Whale, The Killers, The Long Winters, The Staves and Mumford & Sons (another band I've recently fallen in love with). Check out the video below and tell me what you think!

I read in their Vimeo page that the artists actually recorded themselves on video cameras and were later brought together through the polaroid concept of the video. How cool is this?! I'm impressed =D.

Happy Saturday everyone! I just got home from a meeting at work. This thankfully went very well. The weather has been fabulous which has been such a wonderful change. The Sun is out and about and I love that. I cannot believe I do not have to work this weekend. I haven't had a whole weekend off in a very, very long time. I don't even know what to do with myself! I do have a birthday party to attend in a few hours but until then I think I'll do some reading. What are your plans for the weekend? Whatever they may be, have a lovely time! =D

I was recently introduced to Mumford & Sons and instantly I fell in love. I have been listening to After the Storm nonstop. This song is beautiful. I know I say this about every song I post on this little blog of mine but, truly this song is amazingly beautiful. If you don't believe me please listen to the song below. Mumford & Sons consists of four young incredible and talented guys: Marcus, Country, Ben and Ted. The London-based quartet has without a doubt swept me off my feet. In fact I want to run out this very moment and get Sigh No More, their debut album. Check out After the Storm below and tell me what you think!
